Sydney Opera House

Performances are held in the Opera Theatre. With seating for 1547 people, its the second largest venue at Sydney Opera House. As the operas are performed in their original language (mostly Italian), subtitles in English are projected onto a screen above the stage.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous and distinctive 20th century buildings, and one of the most famous performing arts venues in the world.


The Opera House was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II, in her capacity as Queen of Australia, on 20 October 1973.

It is designed by Jorn Utzon, who won an international competition involving 233 entries from 32 countries.

As many touring theatre, ballet, and musical productions, the Opera House is the home of Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
